Last year, we had 370 entries from 13 states and 2 Canadian Provinces (Manitoba and Saskatchewan)

A company called Crushpad has started an online business of allowing anyone in the world to sign up and virtually make their own wine! Members of Crushpad can choose which grapes they want to use from numerous vendors and pay a decent fee for someone else to make a minimum of 1 barrel of wine!

San Francisco-based Crushpad was started by businessman Michael Brill after he noticed that neighbors were fascinated by the vines he planted in his backyard and realized there was a market ready to be tapped. Members sign up to make at least one barrel of wine per year (300 75- milliliter bottles) and decide what style of wine they want and what grapes they want to buy from numerous suppliers available.

St. James Most Awarded Winery PDF Print E-mail

Thursday, 12 April 2007 has reported that St. James Winery, or "America's Midwest Winery," was honored as the most awarded winery by the New World International Wine Competition! The event was held in Southern California on March 18 & 19, 2007. Only 249 out of over 2,000 wines won a Gold medal or Best of Class award.  St. James winery left the competition with 3 Best of Class, 8 Gold, 6 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals! Other top contenders were Kendall-Jackson (18 medals), Rodney Strong Vineyards (10 medals), Barefoot Cellars (10 medals), Fetzer Vineyards (15 medals), South Coast Winery (15 medals), and V. Sattui Winery (17 medals).

The hard freeze temperatures in the mid-west have made national news today with this article in the Napa Valley Register regarding the fear of many vineyards losing most, if not all, of their precious grape crop to the harsh cold nights of the past week.

I'm sure there are even a few of our members that are adversely affected by the cold temperatures and their grape crops... The MVWS is hoping for the best!
